The Final One

Hello everyone!

As the quarter comes to an end, I will be reflecting on things I learned this quarter and plans I have stored for the future.

Transformative Learning

The main topic that we focused on in my writing class was the way Disney has contributed to social norms. I learned things I had never heard about. For example, the term "social construction" was something I had never heard about. Learning about the ways the media influences our everyday lives makes me view things differently. I know to see the typical gender norms that the media portrays a girl and a boy should act. Over time these gender norms have become the "normal" in my everyday life. I think this is important because it has helped me come to the realization that I do not need to live up to these ideal standards. Acknowledging this will impact me in the future by keeping an eye out and not be upset for not living up to these expectations.

Aside from material things, I also learned some things about myself and the way I work/ how I need to improve. Just being at home in the pandemic, I have struggled to find the motivation to do work. One thing that has helped me is writing down goals for the day that I want to accomplish. These goals can be as simple as cleaning my room or completing a certain assignment homework assignment. I bought a planner where I organize all my classes for the day and the homework I want to complete. I found by crossing out a task that I completed makes me more motivated because I want to continue getting tasks done. This is important in my future because it will help me in my next years of college to stay on top of my myself and not fall behind.

Taking Stock

Adding on to my last paragraph, lacking motivation caused me to run into some time issues. Next quarter I plan to continue writing in my planner and making goals for myself to stay on track with my classes. I want to be able to split my work over a spam a day so that I don't cram it all for one day. Not only will this help me be less stressed, but it will help me to turn in better thought-out assignments. Taking my time at work will help me get better grades and also help me to learn more since you don't learn much from cramming.

Another problem I ran into this quarter was writing. Writing has never been my strength. I find it hard to come up with ideas and just start a paper. One thing my professor did that helped me in my writing process was to split our essay into different parts, such as, outline, write introductory paragraphs, write body paragraphs, self-review, etc. I plan to use this skill in my next writing courses to help me better brainstorm and write a stringer paragraph.

This concludes my final blog. Thank you for joining me on this journey and I hope you learned a little bit about myself and the course.
